Training & Development

Training and development is a key strategic imperative for CGIS’ ongoing success. For onboarding new employees, an individual comprehensive program is developed to ensure they receive everything they need to be successful from the start.

Annual developmental plans for all staff are done to identify what is needed and training is offered in many different forms to meet those needs. We also invest time to create opportunities for employees to work in different branches and markets to broaden their exposure and knowledge.

CG University (CGU) CGIS’ e-learning platform. This internal university includes both technical and non-technical courses and resources to assist staff throughout their careers to grow and develop.

CGU is our internal resource for knowledge acquisition. It is an in-house library of reference and information to assist people across the organization in the work they do every day, in their careers to build a bright future with us and to create great business people to care for CGIS and its customers.

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for the overall success of the Applications Specialist group within a CGIS branch.  It will be a dynamic role between Sales leadership and active quotations.  In the role, you will be tasked with balancing completion and winning of new quotations to support customers’ needs and the active engagement, review, support and triaging of quotations with the Inside Sales team to support the success of the vision of being focused on the customer.

Detailed Responsibilities:

 Sales Leadership

  • Communicate regularly with teammates to ensure workload and support
  • Triage and assign or reassign quotes strategically to maximize win rate
  • Manage requests from customers for all four business streams; Ensuring the quotations are going to the right team member and setting them up to win the order
  • Positively manage and mentor the Applications Specialist Team to promote strong individual and team performance and a healthy culture of cohesiveness and transparency
  • Ensure all team members have established training and development plans and are progressing according to them
  • Through forward planning, develops meeting plans and regularly meet with all team members providing suggestions, coaching, mentoring, and knowledge transfer opportunities for all quotes and sales activities
  • Works closely with junior team members, listen in on calls as required, provide advice on customer issues and provide feedback to management on training requirements and progress
  • Effectively deal with issues that arise or concerns related to the performance/conduct of the sales team; participate in and contribute to the development and delivery of annual reviews
  • Foster cooperation between branches
  • Works closely with order fulfillment team to ensure a smooth transition of quote to order
  • Participate in recruiting and interviewing potential candidates for the Applications Specialists team

Sales — Inside

  • Actively guide and support team to sell solutions to problematic services by evaluating the application, understanding the process and the client’s needs to find the right valve for the job
  • Be a trusted partner for severe service, control, automation, and on/off valves
  • Prepare MRO quotations in a quick and timely manner for a wide range of products:
  • Knife gates, Ball valves, Butterfly valves, Parts, Accessories, Actuators, Control
  • From inventory, deadstock, vendor stock, manufacturers inventory, and production
  • Following customer requests or specifications and using your experience to find the right solutions
  • Respond, acknowledge, and provide a great customer experience for all customers
  • Understand the life cycle of orders to support the providing of accurate quotes, ensuring proper margin, lead time, and quality of product selected to ensure a winning quote
  • Be extremely knowledgeable about current inventory, valve types, and manufacturers
  • Interact with manufacturers to get technical, pricing, and delivery needs in a timely manner
  • Manage project proposals and assist project team in project order execution
  • Build meaningful customer relationships and a deep understanding of Key customer’s needs
  • Work closely with TSR (Outside Sales) to ensure the strategies to market are understood and executed for each customer
  • Seek opportunities to convert inquiries to other business streams when applicable
  • Close sales – follow up as required
  • Thirst to learn – Develop product knowledge and sales to translate to full top tier proposals

Technical Knowledge

  • Degree or diploma in Electrical, Mechanical or Process Engineering or equivalent experience
  • In-depth knowledge of the valve industry
  • Technical expertise across CGIS’s business lines
  • Previous experience successfully leading a group or team in a similar environment

Position Summary:

Reporting directly to the Marketing Lead, this position is responsible for coordination and implementation of strategic marketing to enhance and help the growth of CGIS. This is a junior marketing generalist position. The ideal candidate would have an interest in B2B marketing in the industrial sector. This is a 12 month, full time contract. This position could be based out of either Vancouver or Edmonton.


Detailed Responsibilities:

CGIS Branding

  • Keep CGIS’ brand current through various media in a positive, creative, and forward-thinking manner
  • Produce promotional material and campaigns to raise the company’s profile to potential customers in North America
  • Maintain and distribute employee templates ensuring accuracy across the board

Content

  • Contribute to the copy of marketing brochures, case studies, flyers, articles and social media posts
  • Brainstorm ideas for digital and print advertisements
  • Campaign creation and workflow design in HubSpot
  • Contribute to testimonials and case studies that highlight past successes in order to attract new customers and retain existing customers
  • Implement and manage social media marketing to highlight CGIS’ strength as a valve expert and internal strength as an employer

CGIS Website

  • Aid in the maintenance of the CGIS website, specifically through content updates

Tradeshows, Speaking Opportunities and Sponsorships

  • Research upcoming tradeshows, speaking opportunities and sponsorship options while maintaining up-to-date spreadsheet with relevant information
  • Tradeshow organization

Market Research and Analysis

  • Market research on potential Canadian and international mining opportunities
  • Data analysis and cleansing
  • SEO analysis and improvement

Events Coordination

  • Coordinate all aspects of CGIS events while staying within budget

Technical Knowledge:

  • Diploma or degree in Marketing or equivalent field
  • Basic understanding of marketing practices and procedures
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Working knowledge of Hubspot or other Marketing Automation Software programs an asset
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud and WordPress an asset

  • Effective communication / active listening skills
  • Ability to build strong, effective working relationships with customers, vendors, and colleagues
  • Excellent written communication skills are a must
